Psychology Today shared a fascinating article by Dr. Georgia Ede who posts at DiagnosisDiet.com that suggests that diet, and insulin resistance in particular, is a primary cause of Alzheimers Disease. It's a new idea and not yet fully embraced by the medical (or food) community, but it is far enough along that if you Google "Type 3 Diabetes" you'll get links to this issue. Advocates argue that too much sugar leads to insulin resistance and, ultimately, to brain disease.
I've recently been on sort of a whole foods diet binge and do feel better, but I know that some of my food choices lean to the starchy side. And not just a little bit. Moreover, since I've been so good eating my salads, I've allowed myself the luxury of a caffeine-free soda at lunch. Furthermore, many of the foods I use to make my salad a bit more exciting (carrots and raisins, for example) are themselves sugar heavy. This article was really a wake-up call, and potentially a brain saver.
You might want to use the link to read up on this interesting and probably very important line of thought. Do it now - before you forget.
